At Gleneagle Arena · Gleneagle Hotel, Killarney, Co. Kerry
Thirty years ago, Riverdance changed the way the world thought about Irish dance. This September it comes to Killarney for a four-night run at Gleneagle Arena, and the production is genuinely new - not a nostalgia tour. Every performer in “The New Generation” was born after the original show premiered. The choreography, costuming and technical production have all been rebuilt from the ground up, with state-of-the-art lighting, projection and motion graphics alongside the Grammy Award-winning soundtrack. It suits anyone who has ever seen the show and wants to see what it has become, and equally anyone coming to it fresh.
This is a full-scale arena show staged at a venue that holds up to 4,000 people. The production blends traditional Irish step dance with contemporary movement, and the ensemble includes world-class dancers, musicians and singers. The new generation framing is more than marketing: the company has genuinely skewed younger, and the energy on stage reflects that. Plan for roughly two hours including an interval. Tickets start from €25; the Gleneagle Arena website is the place to check availability and seating options.
Gleneagle Arena sits on Muckross Road (the N71), less than one kilometre south of Killarney town centre, beside the Gleneagle and Brehon hotels. The N22 runs west from Cork (about 85 km) and east to Tralee (about 32 km). Free onsite parking is available for all patrons, though for a busy show arriving early avoids the post-show car park shuffle. Killarney rail station is served by direct trains from Cork, Dublin Heuston and Tralee; the arena is a short taxi or 15-minute walk from the station.
A trip for the show is a good excuse to spend a night in the area. The lakes, national park walking trails and Muckross House are all within easy reach of the venue. There is more to see in Killarney and across Co. Kerry.
