The Kevin Lawlor Trio at The Sky and the Ground

At The Sky and the Ground (upstairs bar) · South Main Street, Wexford, Co. Wexford, Y35 C65F

A jazz trio performing in an intimate upstairs bar setting

What to Expect

The Kevin Lawlor Trio, presented by Wexford Arts Centre, plays a one-off early-evening show in the upstairs bar at The Sky and the Ground rather than a conventional theatre setting. The trio is Kevin Lawlor on drums, Chris Colloton on guitar and Cillian Byrne on bass, a line-up originally put together to perform on Lyric FM at the Wexford Spiegeltent in 2025 and now reforming for this single Wexford date before the musicians head to the Aberjazz Jazz Festival in Wales. Expect an improvising jazz set built around familiar standards and lesser-known material rather than a fixed setlist, played to a small, intimate room rather than a formal stage. The early 6pm start makes it an evening-starter rather than a late-night gig, suited to anyone who wants a proper jazz set without a late finish.

Staging the show in the pub’s upstairs bar rather than the Arts Centre’s own theatre space is a deliberate choice that suits a jazz trio built for close listening: a smaller, less formal room than a seated auditorium, closer in spirit to the jazz clubs the genre grew up in than a concert hall. Because the group came together originally for a specific radio broadcast rather than as an ongoing working band, this Wexford date is a genuinely rare chance to hear the same line-up before they scatter to other projects, including their booking at the Aberjazz Jazz Festival in Wales shortly after.
