Kids Crafting Fun!

At North Mayo Heritage Centre · Enniscoe, Castlehill, Crossmolina, Co. Mayo

Kids crafting fun workshop

A free morning of hands-on making for children at one of North Mayo’s most beautiful heritage properties. Kids Crafting Fun at the North Mayo Heritage Centre gives younger visitors two hours of creative workshop time in the grounds of the historic Enniscoe Estate - a setting that does most of the work before the glue and scissors even come out. It is the kind of activity that suits families already out exploring the area, or anyone looking for something structured and genuinely engaging for children on a summer Friday morning.

What to expect

The session runs from 11:00am to 1:00pm and is free to attend. Children explore craft-making activities guided by the centre’s team, with the focus on imagination and hands-on making. The centre runs children’s workshops through the year - past programmes have included needle-felting, willow weaving and natural dyeing - so the crafting on offer tends to draw on the heritage and natural materials of the estate rather than being generic arts-and-crafts fare.

The North Mayo Heritage Centre sits on the Enniscoe Estate, a Georgian property surrounded by mature woodland with views across Lough Conn to the slopes of Nephin Mountain. The grounds include organic gardens and short looped walks, which makes it easy to turn the workshop into a full morning out - the estate is peaceful and well-suited to families who want to wander before or after the session. The centre holds a Green Flag award for its environmental work, which gives the natural materials angle some weight.

Booking is required, so contact the centre before turning up: northmayoheritagecentre.ie, or phone 096 31809.

Getting there

The centre is at Enniscoe, Castlehill - about 3km south of Crossmolina on the R315 road towards Lahardane. From Ballina, take the N26 north to Crossmolina and then follow signs for the R315. The drive from Ballina takes around 20 minutes. Westport is about 50 minutes south via Castlebar. There is on-site parking at the estate. Bus Eireann serves Crossmolina on the Ballina - Belmullet corridor, but the estate itself is a short drive from the village so a car is practical for families.

While you’re in Crossmolina

Crossmolina sits at the northern end of Lough Conn, and the lake itself is worth a look - a fine spot for a walk or a picnic after the workshop. The town has a good few cafes and a quiet, unhurried pace that suits a family day. There is more to see in Crossmolina and across Co. Mayo.
