The Kildare Intermediate Football Championship is where clubs fight to prove they belong at the senior table, and Group C of the 2026 edition brings together four clubs - Ballyteague, Milltown, Grangenolvin, and Nurney - across six fixtures running from early August into September. This is the level where local pride runs hot and every point in the round-robin matters. If you want Gaelic football without the crowds and ticket queues of the senior county game, an intermediate championship match is a fine way to spend a summer evening or weekend afternoon.
Six matches make up the group stage, spread across three rounds. Ballyteague meet Milltown in the opening round at Cedral St Conleth’s Park in Newbridge on 7 August at 7:45pm, while Grangenolvin face Nurney at Manguard Park Pitch 1 the following afternoon at 5pm. Round 2 on 22 and 23 August sees Ballyteague take on Nurney at Manguard Park Pitch 2 and Grangenolvin face Milltown at Manguard Park Pitch 1. The group concludes on 6 September with Ballyteague meeting Grangenolvin in Kilcullen and Milltown facing Nurney at Manguard Park Pitch 2, both at 2pm.
The competition carries the National Electrical Wholesalers sponsorship and is organised by Kildare GAA. Admission prices vary by fixture - check kildaregaa.ie before travelling as specifics are confirmed closer to each game.
Newbridge, where Cedral St Conleth’s Park sits, is on the Dublin-Kildare commuter rail line and is about 40 minutes from Heuston by train. By road, take the M7 motorway and exit at Junction 11 for Newbridge. There is parking in the town and around the ground. Manguard Park at Hawkfield is on the outskirts of Newbridge, best reached by car - follow signs for Hawkfield from the N7 or use a satnav as the site can be tricky to find on a first visit. Kilcullen GAA ground, used for the September fixture, is a short drive south of Newbridge on the R448.
The Kildare town area has the Japanese Gardens and the National Stud just a few minutes’ drive away, and Newbridge Silverware has a popular visitor centre if you are making a day of it. There is more to see in Kildare and across Co. Kildare.
