At Various · County Kildare
The Joe Mallon Motors Kildare Senior Football Championship is one of the most keenly contested club competitions in Leinster, and Group B of the 2026 edition pits four strong clubs against each other across a round-robin series running from late August into September. Carbury, Sarsfields, Caragh, and Maynooth each bring loyal support and genuine ambition, making every fixture a proper contest rather than a formality. If you follow club GAA or simply enjoy watching competitive football in good company, this is the kind of local championship that reminds you why the club game matters.
Three rounds of group fixtures decide which teams advance from Group B. Each club plays the others in a round-robin format, with results carrying real weight - a defeat in any round leaves a side fighting to stay in contention. Carbury come from the north of the county, Maynooth from the commuter belt near the county border, while Sarsfields and Caragh represent the heartland around Newbridge. The mix of styles and rivalries makes for unpredictable football.
Matches are spread across Kildare GAA’s two main venues. Manguard Park Hawkfield, located just outside Newbridge, is the county’s training and development hub and hosts a good volume of championship games throughout the season. Cedral St Conleth’s Park in Newbridge is the county ground proper - recently redeveloped at a cost of around €18 million, it reopened in October 2024 with a new 3,000-seater stand, fresh floodlights, a relaid and widened pitch, and a capacity of 15,000. Catching a game there feels noticeably different from a standard club ground.
Specific venue assignments and throw-in times for each round are confirmed closer to the fixture dates by Kildare GAA. Check kildaregaa.ie in the week before each match.
Newbridge is the main base for both venues and is straightforward to reach. From Dublin, the M7 motorway brings you to Newbridge in under an hour, and the N7 is a reliable alternative. Irish Rail runs regular services from Heuston Station on the Dublin to Kildare/Portlaoise line, with Newbridge station a short walk from the town centre. Bus Éireann routes also connect Newbridge to Dublin and surrounding towns.
Parking is available at and around both venues. Hawkfield is located on the Milltown Road outside town, so driving is the easiest option there. St Conleth’s Park is more centrally placed, with town-centre car parks within easy reach on match days.
Newbridge is a lively county town with a good range of cafes, pubs and restaurants - worth arriving a little early to settle in before throw-in. The Curragh, Japanese Gardens and the National Stud are all within a short drive if you are making a day of it. There is more to see in Kildare and across Co. Kildare.
