Summer Stars Reading Programme 2026

Summer Stars is a free summer reading challenge running June 2 to August 31, 2026, for children aged up to 12 years. Participants sign up at any Laois library branch and receive a Summer Stars activity pack. Free events and activities take place across all Laois library branches throughout June, July and August, with booking opening two weeks before each event. Children who complete the challenge by reading 16 books receive a certificate, medal and entry into a county-wide prize draw with prizes including Emerald Park family passes, Roll ‘n’ Bowl vouchers and Castleview Open Farm vouchers.
The programme is completely free, including all library events and activities. Participants can visit their local library to register and begin their reading adventure. Laois libraries participating include branches in Portlaoise, Abbeyleix, Mountrath and Portarlington.
All Laois library branches are centrally located in their respective towns with accessible parking.
