At GAA clubs across Leitrim · County Leitrim
Each summer, Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps give children across Ireland a week of proper Gaelic games coaching at their local club. In County Leitrim, camps run at GAA clubs throughout the county from July into August, making this one of the most widely accessible summer activities for families in the region. It suits children aged 6 to 13, from total beginners to those who already line out for their club on Sundays. The camp kit alone - jersey, bag and shorts delivered before camp starts - tends to make an impression on kids before the week even begins.
Each camp runs Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm, for one week. Experienced GAA coaches structure the days so that a different aspect of the game gets attention each session - catching and hand-passing one day, kicking and shooting the next - building skills gradually before putting them into practice through small-sided games. The emphasis throughout is on enjoyment rather than competition, with children of all abilities playing together in groups matched by age.
Gaelic football, hurling and camogie are all on the programme, so children who have only ever played one code get the chance to try the others. Towards the end of the week, a blitz brings everything together and gives each child a taste of match play. It is informal, well-supervised and structured to keep even the most reluctant participants moving and engaged.
Every child who books at least ten days in advance receives a Cúl Camps kit - jersey, shorts and bag - delivered to the house before the week starts. Booking is done online through the official Kellogg’s Cúl Camps website, where you can filter by Leitrim to see all available club venues, dates and remaining places. Camps fill up, so early booking is worth it.
Camps are hosted at local GAA clubs across Leitrim, from Carrick-on-Shannon in the south to Manorhamilton in the north. Most venues are within easy reach of wherever you are based in the county. The N4 connects Carrick-on-Shannon to Dublin and Sligo, and the R280 and R209 link into the interior. Bus Éireann serves Carrick-on-Shannon on the Dublin - Sligo route; other club venues are generally car-dependent. Most GAA club grounds have off-street parking.
Leitrim is one of the least crowded counties in Ireland, with the Shannon-Erne Waterway running through it and the Sliabh an Iarainn uplands to the north. There is more to see in Leitrim and across Co. Leitrim.
