Forgotten

Pat Kinevane brings Forgotten, his solo piece for Fishamble: The New Play Company, to The Dock in Carrick-on-Shannon on Friday, 16 October 2026 at 8pm. Kinevane blends Kabuki-influenced movement with Irish storytelling to play four elderly residents of Irish nursing homes, giving voice to a generation whose stories rarely make it to the centre of a stage. The production has been touring internationally for over a decade and has picked up major award wins and nominations along the way.

What to expect

The show runs 95 minutes with no interval and is recommended for ages 14 and up. The Irish Times has called it captivating and deeply moving, and The New Yorker praised its beauty and emotional force. Kinevane writes and performs all four characters himself, moving between them without a costume change or set change to mark the shift. Movement drawn from Japanese Kabuki theatre sits alongside plain-spoken Irish speech patterns, and the piece deals directly with ageing, loneliness, memory and how Irish society treats its elderly citizens once they are no longer living independently. It has become one of Fishamble’s most travelled productions since it premiered, carried almost entirely by Kinevane’s performance. Audiences at The Dock can expect a demanding, immersive solo show rather than a conventional multi-character drama.

The Dock is on St George’s Terrace in Carrick-on-Shannon town centre, close to the bus stop and railway station on the Dublin to Sligo line, with public parking nearby.
