A Weekend of Irish Song with Amano

At The Glens Centre · The New Line, Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim

Amano performing Irish sean-nos song

The Glens Centre in Manorhamilton hosts a weekend built around Irish sean-nos singer Amano, who has roots in both Kerry and Kyushu in Japan. A concert on Friday, 16 October 2026 is followed by a bilingual singing workshop on Saturday morning, giving the small converted-church venue a rare two-part traditional song event rather than a single gig.

What to expect

Friday’s concert, starting at 8pm, features Amano alongside a band of established musicians playing traditional Irish music blended with contemporary and electronic influences, drawing on her background as a singer, songwriter and sean-nos artist. Saturday’s workshop, from 11am to 1pm and capped at 20 participants, is fully bilingual and open to all skill levels, working through embodiment and vocal exercises before teaching a selection of Irish traditional songs, with attention paid to the story behind each one. The workshop carries an 18+ age requirement. Past attendees have described Amano’s teaching style as gentle and attentive, and the two events can be booked separately or together as a weekend pass. Pairing a concert with a participatory workshop the next morning is not the usual format for a Glens Centre gig, and reflects the venue’s wider role as a small production and residency space rather than a straightforward touring stop.

Getting there

The Glens Centre is on the New Line in Manorhamilton, a converted church that seats up to 130 people, on the N16 road between Sligo and Enniskillen. The venue’s phone line is open Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 5pm, for enquiries, and tickets can also be booked online through the centre’s own website.
