Live Music For Charity - An Sportlann

At An Sportlann · McHale Road, Castlebar, Co. Mayo

Live Music For Charity fundraiser at An Sportlann Castlebar

What to Expect

Castlebar Mitchels GAA club hosts a special evening of live music at An Sportlann on Friday 28 August 2026, with every cent raised going to Cuan Mhuire Coolarne, the addiction rehabilitation and treatment centre. The event is organised by club member Byron Ó Cléirigh and runs from 7pm to midnight, giving the night room for a full bill of performers rather than a single support-slot act. It is an open, all-welcome community fundraiser rather than a ticketed concert with a fixed lineup poster - the emphasis is on local musicians giving their time for a cause many Mayo families have a direct connection to, since Cuan Mhuire’s residential centres have supported people from right across the west of Ireland for decades. Entry is a flat €10 at the door, with organisers stressing that “all proceeds go directly to Cuan Mhuire.” Expect a GAA-club-hall atmosphere - relaxed, local, and more about supporting the cause than a slick production. Cuan Mhuire is one of Ireland’s longest-running addiction treatment charities, operating residential centres that rely heavily on community fundraising exactly like this to keep beds available, so events like this one carry real practical weight beyond the night itself. The grounds sit at the end of the McHale Road and are built around a basketball hall, gym, handball courts and a bar and banquet room; Castlebar Mitchels has fielded teams under that name since 1885. Cuan Mhuire itself was founded in 1966 by Sr. Consilio of the Sisters of Mercy, and its west of Ireland centre at Coolarne, Co. Galway, dates to 1994, when Sr. Consilio and eleven volunteers first took up residence there.

While You’re in Castlebar

An Sportlann is Castlebar Mitchels’ own grounds, so expect a genuinely local crowd rather than a tourist-facing venue - it’s a good chance to see a slice of everyday Castlebar life alongside supporting a well-regarded local charity. There is more to see in Castlebar and across Co. Mayo.
