Longford Library Kids Creative Workshops - Summer 2026

At Longford County Libraries · Six branches: Longford Town, Ballymahon, Drumlish, Edgeworthstown, Granard, Lanesborough

Kids creative workshop at Longford library

Longford’s library branches are running free hands-on creative workshops for children right through August 2026, the craft-and-making strand of the wider Summer Stars programme. Rather than one single event, each branch has settled on its own weekly session with a different focus, so a family with library cards at more than one branch can mix and match through the summer. All sessions are free and pitched at primary-school-age children, with some requiring advance booking depending on numbers.

What to expect

Each branch has its own workshop theme for summer 2026. Lanesborough is running eco wind chime making, using natural and recycled materials. Edgeworthstown’s sessions are science-inspired art workshops, mixing basic science concepts with painting and craft. Drumlish is running LEGO block printing, turning LEGO bricks into simple printmaking tools. Ballymahon’s strand leans literary, with children’s poetry and book events. Granard rounds things out with general LEGO creativity sessions for younger builders. All of it is hands-on and designed to be approachable for children who would not necessarily call themselves “arty,” with library staff on hand throughout to help. The workshops run alongside, and feed into, the library’s Summer Stars reading challenge, so children often drop in for a workshop and leave with a new book too.

Getting there

The six branches are spread across the county: Longford Town, Ballymahon, Drumlish, Edgeworthstown, Granard and Lanesborough. Most families will have one branch within easy reach; opening hours and the specific weekly workshop slot vary by branch, so it is worth checking ahead by phone.
