Mary Coughlan, Sharon Shannon & Frances Black

At TF Royal Hotel & Theatre · Old Westport Road, Castlebar, Co. Mayo

Mary Coughlan, Sharon Shannon, Frances Black poster

Three of the most distinct voices in Irish music share a single stage at the TF Royal in Castlebar on Saturday 1 August 2026. Mary Coughlan, Sharon Shannon, and Frances Black have each built careers that span decades and cross genre lines - blues and jazz, traditional and roots, soul and folk. Put them together for one evening and you have something genuinely rare: a concert that covers a huge sweep of Irish music through three artists who have actually lived it. It suits anyone who takes Irish music seriously, but the billing is broad enough to pull in people who simply want a great night out in the west.

What to expect

Each artist brings a different flavour. Mary Coughlan is often described as Ireland’s leading blues and jazz singer - her debut album sold 100,000 copies in Ireland on its first release and her live performances are known for raw emotional honesty, drawing on Billie Holiday and Edith Piaf as touchstones while staying entirely her own. Sharon Shannon has spent thirty years bending the accordion into unexpected shapes, mixing traditional Irish roots with reggae, hip-hop and classical textures in a way nobody else has quite managed. Frances Black carries one of the most warmly recognised voices in the country, with a catalogue built across traditional and contemporary Irish music.

The TF Royal is one of the largest venues in Ireland outside Dublin - a 2,200-seat theatre with a 3,200 sq ft stage and serious production capabilities. Doors open at 7:00pm, with the show beginning at 8:00pm. Seating is unreserved, so arriving closer to doors gives you the best pick.

Getting there

Castlebar sits at the centre of Co. Mayo and is straightforward to reach by road. From Dublin, the N5 runs directly west to Castlebar - roughly 2 hours and 30 minutes. From Galway, the N17 north takes about an hour. Bus Eireann runs regular services between Castlebar and Dublin, Galway, Westport and Sligo - check current timetables before travelling as evening return times vary. The TF Royal has a multi-storey car park directly adjacent to the theatre, so driving is hassle-free for those coming from within Mayo or the surrounding counties.

While you’re in Castlebar

Castlebar is a lively town with a good spread of pubs and restaurants along the main streets - worth arriving a little early and taking your time before the show. The National Museum of Ireland - Country Life is a short drive away in Turlough, and Lough Lannagh is right in the town if you want a walk before the evening. There is more to see in Castlebar and across Co. Mayo.
