What to Expect

Balla Community Bingo is a weekly fixture at Balla Community Centre, drawing players from Balla and the surrounding villages for a night of bingo with a substantial prize fund, house winners, a 50/50 draw and a wheel of fortune game. It runs both in-person in the hall and online, so regulars who cannot make it to Balla in person can still play from home. All proceeds go directly back into community projects and events in the town, including support for local GAA activities, so every card sold helps fund something locally rather than disappearing into overheads.

The combination of in-person, online and drive-in play makes it more accessible than a typical hall bingo night, letting older residents, people without transport, or anyone simply preferring to stay home still take part and contribute to the weekly fundraising. It has built up a loyal following well beyond the village itself, helped along by the dedicated bus service bringing players in from neighbouring towns each week.

Bingo is played every Sunday evening, with card sales closing at 6:00pm and reopening at 6:30pm for the following week, and eyes down at 8:00pm. A dedicated bingo bus collects players from Brickens, Claremorris, Hollymount, Ballyglass and Mayo Abbey to arrive in Balla by 7:40pm, with reservations taken on 087 1850860 or 094 9365846. Cards are bought per person on the night rather than through membership, and both online and drive-in options are available for anyone who prefers not to sit indoors. As a genuinely weekly event, it is worth noting as a standing Sunday-night date rather than a one-off.

Getting There

Balla Community Centre is in the village of Balla, roughly midway between Castlebar and Claremorris, with parking at the hall and the bingo bus service available from nearby towns. Balla’s central location within the county makes it a reasonably easy Sunday-evening drive from most of south and central Mayo.
