Boyne Valley Trails September Festival 2026

At Boyne Valley trails, multiple locations · Boyne Valley, Co. Meath

Walkers on a guided trail through the Boyne Valley during the September festival

The Boyne Valley Trails September Festival is a three-week programme of guided walks and outdoor activities spread across the Boyne Valley, straddling Co. Meath and Co. Louth, running from Tuesday 1 to Wednesday 23 September 2026. It is organised by Boyne Valley Trails with Love Drogheda BID and Fáilte Ireland, and leans on the fact that this stretch of countryside carries both dramatic landscape and one of the densest concentrations of ancient history in Ireland.

What to Expect

The programme mixes guided hillwalking and mountain hikes, history town trails, Nordic walking classes, myths and legends walks, boating, food tours, guided meditation and foraging trails. Meath-specific dates confirmed for 2026 include a guided walk on “The Myths and Legends of the Hill of Tara” on Saturday 19 September, a history tour of Fourknocks Passage Tomb and its Neolithic landscape near Stamullen on 20 September, and a history tour of the monastic site, medieval church and graveyard at Stamullen on 13 September. Most walks are guided by local historians and outdoor instructors, and many need to be booked in advance as numbers are limited. The festival is run in partnership with Love Drogheda BID and Fáilte Ireland, and treats the Boyne Valley as one connected landscape rather than a set of separate attractions, which is why a single walk can move between passage tombs, medieval church ruins and open countryside inside a couple of hours.
