What to Expect

The Bru na Boinne Visitor Centre near Donore, Co. Meath is the gateway to the Newgrange and Knowth passage tombs, UNESCO World Heritage Sites over 5,000 years old. Guided tours include the visitor centre exhibition and guided access to the interiors of the Newgrange chamber and/or Knowth. Tours last approximately three hours and depart via shuttle bus from the visitor centre. Children under 12 are free but must still be ticketed. Numbers are limited to around 700 per day in peak season, so advance booking online is strongly advised in summer.

Good to Know

  • Season runs March to early November; extended summer hours apply June to August.

  • Family ticket (2 adults plus up to 5 children aged 12-17): EUR 48 for the main tour including Newgrange chamber.

  • Children under 12: free, but a ticket is still required and must be booked online.

  • Pre-booking online is essential in summer. Book at heritageireland.ie.

  • Shuttle buses transfer visitors from the centre to the monuments.

Getting There

The visitor centre is at Donore, Co. Meath, approximately 8km west of Drogheda and 45km north of Dublin. Signposted from the N51. Car parking available at the visitor centre.
