Niall McCabe plays the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday 10 September 2026, bringing his finger-style guitar work and distinctive vocal delivery to the intimate main room. Raised on a remote Irish island, McCabe has built a sound the venue describes as “timeless and natural” while being carefully composed underneath - a singer-songwriter set rather than a straight trad night, though his background runs directly through Irish traditional music: he spent years as part of the trad-fusion band Beoga, and has supported major touring names including Ed Sheeran, Foy Vance and Chris Isaak. His 2023 album Rituals became RTÉ’s Album of the Week, with the title track topping RTÉ Radio’s airplay charts for five consecutive weeks, and this show draws heavily on that record alongside newer material. Expect a quiet, attentive room - the Linenhall’s performance space is built for this kind of close, unamplified-feeling show - and a set that moves between introspective original songs and more upbeat guitar-driven numbers. It falls in the same September run of Linenhall gigs that also brings Teague & Joyce and Rónán Ó Snodaigh to the same room, part of a particularly strong month for singer-songwriter and folk bookings at the venue. The Linenhall’s theatre is a genuinely small room by touring standards, with a flexible 144-seat standard layout, and the building itself is far older than the arts centre that runs it: it began life in 1790 as Lord Lucan’s linen exchange, storing looms and flax for Mayo’s once-substantial linen trade, before later serving as Castlebar’s Town Hall. It became the Linenhall Arts Centre in 1990, following on from a touring-exhibition pilot project that had started in 1976.
The Linenhall Arts Centre is on Linenhall Street in Castlebar town centre, within walking distance of the main square, with parking available nearby. Castlebar is on the N5, roughly two and a half hours from Dublin and an hour from Galway, and is served by Bus Eireann from Dublin, Galway, Westport and Ballina.
