Onóir is a four-piece male vocal group from Donegal whose approach to Irish folk music has found a wide audience across Ireland and beyond. Formed in 2020 and built around close four-part harmony, they take classic ballads and traditional songs and give them arrangements that feel fresh without losing the weight of the originals. This concert at the TF Royal in Castlebar is part of their extensive 2026 Brotherhood tour, which takes them to over a hundred theatres across Ireland, the UK, Europe and North America. If you enjoy Irish folk done with real craft - rich vocal blend, emotional material, no gimmicks - this is a strong night out.
The TF Royal is one of the west’s finest dedicated theatre venues, with a 3,200 sq ft stage and proper production values: sound, lighting and rigging all built for live performance. Onóir fill a theatre stage well. The four members - Tom McHugh, Declan Gaughan, Deane Connaghan and Diarmaid McGee - perform harmony-led arrangements of well-known Irish ballads alongside material from their debut album. Expect songs that carry familiar melodies in new arrangements, the kind of concert where an audience who did not know the group going in will know the words to most of what they hear. Doors open at 7:30pm for an 8:00pm start. Dress is relaxed - this is a theatre not a nightclub, so audiences tend to be comfortable rather than dressed up.
Castlebar is the county town of Mayo, sitting on the N5 roughly 50 km east of Westport and 160 km west of Dublin via the M4/N5. From Galway the drive is about 75 km north on the N17 or N84. Bus Éireann runs regular services into Castlebar from Dublin, Galway, Westport and Ballina. The TF Royal is on the Old Westport Road on the western edge of town - a short drive from the town centre. Parking is available at the venue and along surrounding roads. If you are coming from further afield, Castlebar has a good range of accommodation in and around town.
Castlebar makes a reasonable base for a weekend in Mayo - the town has a market square, decent restaurants and easy access to the countryside. Knock Shrine, Croagh Patrick and Achill Island are all within an hour. There is more to see in Castlebar and across Co. Mayo.
