Onoir Live at Headfort Arms Hotel Kells

At Headfort Arms Hotel · Headfort Place, Kells, Co. Meath

Onoir Irish folk group performing on stage

Four-part harmony from four Donegal lads - that is the core of what Onóir do, and it lands harder live than any recording can capture. The quartet of Tom McHugh, Declan Gaughan, Deane Connaghan and Diarmaid McGee formed in 2020 and have spent the years since refining a show that takes traditional Irish folk ballads and strips them back to voice and arrangement. No gimmicks, no spectacle beyond the singing itself. If you have any feeling for the old songs done well, this is an evening worth marking in the diary. The Headfort Arms in Kells makes for an intimate setting - a town-centre hotel that has been running live shows for years and knows how to fill a room with the right atmosphere.

What to expect

Onóir’s Brotherhood Tour is the band’s most ambitious run to date, taking in Ireland, the UK, Europe and North America across 2026. The Kells date on 19 September is part of that Irish leg. The show is a theatrical production built around the group’s four-part male vocal harmonies - think close-harmony arrangements of folk standards, original material, and the kind of storytelling between songs that makes you feel you know the musicians by the end of the night. They broke through with a lockdown-era version of “The Auld Triangle” that was watched more than 3.5 million times online, and the fanbase has grown steadily since. Over 40,000 people have seen the live show since 2023. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2024; a second record is in progress alongside the touring. Expect a full evening’s entertainment rather than a short support-act slot - the Brotherhood Tour is a headline theatre show.

Getting there

Kells is on the N3, roughly 70 kilometres north-west of Dublin city centre - about 50 minutes by car in ordinary traffic. Bus Éireann route 109 links Dublin Busáras with Kells, with the journey taking around an hour. The Headfort Arms is on Headfort Place in the centre of town, easy to find on foot from the bus stop. Street parking is available around the market square and on the approach roads into town; arrive a little early on a Saturday evening if you want a spot close to the hotel.

While you’re in Kells

Kells is one of those Meath towns that rewards a look around before the evening starts. The round tower and high crosses at St Columba’s Church are among the best-preserved early medieval monuments in the country, and the town was once home to the monks who created the Book of Kells before it moved to Trinity College Dublin. There is more to see in Kells and across Co. Meath.
