Every Sunday from June to the end of August, Greystones Harbour Plaza fills with close to 80 stalls for the Plaza Market, one of the busiest weekly markets on the Wicklow coast. Traders sell fresh produce, baked goods, art, photography, fashion and craft side by side, drawing both locals doing a weekend shop and day trippers who come down on the DART. The market runs right on the harbour front, with Greystones’ small fishing boats and the Irish Sea as a backdrop, and it has become one of the fixed points of a Greystones summer weekend.
Close to 80 stalls set up across the plaza each Sunday, run mostly by small producers and makers rather than large resellers. Expect fresh vegetables, artisan bread and cakes, cheese, coffee and street food alongside stalls selling ceramics, jewellery, prints, clothing and beauty products. A dedicated Community Hub gives space to local groups and charities to promote their own events, and the market regularly runs pop-up activities and seasonal specials alongside the regular trading. The atmosphere is relaxed rather than a tightly run affair, and with the harbour, the green and the beach all within a few minutes’ walk, most visitors treat a trip to the market as one stop on a longer morning out. It has grown steadily since it started and is now one of the largest weekly markets in the county outside Dublin.
Greystones Harbour is a short, flat walk from Greystones DART station, around 10 minutes down Church Road and along the seafront. Free parking is available at the Park and Ride at the south end of town, with a short walk back along the harbour to the plaza. Drivers should expect the harbour car parks themselves to fill early on a fine Sunday.
