Jubilee of Marriages Mass, Ballaghaderreen Cathedral

At Ballaghaderreen Cathedral · Ballaghaderreen Cathedral, Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon

Cathedral interior set up for a wedding anniversary Mass

The Dioceses of Achonry and Elphin are holding a Jubilee of Marriages Mass at Ballaghaderreen Cathedral on Sunday, 4 October 2026, running from 2:30pm to 5pm. Couples celebrating significant wedding anniversaries, silver, ruby, golden, diamond, platinum or any other milestone, are invited to attend and have their marriage marked as part of the celebration. It is one of two such Masses being held across the two dioceses this autumn, the second taking place a week later at Kiltoom Church.

What to expect

The afternoon centres on a special Mass at which anniversary couples are invited forward to renew their vows and receive a blessing, with the wider parish community joining to mark the occasion. Bishop Kevin Doran is expected to preside. Light refreshments follow the Mass, giving couples and their families a chance to meet others celebrating a milestone the same day. It is a low-key, dignified event rather than a large public festival, aimed squarely at couples and their immediate families rather than a general audience, though anyone with an interest in the cathedral or the diocese is welcome to attend as a member of the congregation.

Getting there

Ballaghaderreen Cathedral sits in the centre of the town, on the N5 route between Castlebar and Longford, with Bus Éireann services connecting the town to Roscommon, Castlebar and beyond. Street parking is available around the town centre close to the cathedral.
