Jubilee of Marriages Mass, Kiltoom Church

A second Jubilee of Marriages Mass for the autumn takes place at Kiltoom Church on Sunday, 11 October 2026, from 2:30pm to 5pm, a week after the first was held at Ballaghaderreen Cathedral. The Dioceses of Achonry and Elphin invite couples marking a significant wedding anniversary, silver, ruby, golden, diamond, platinum or another milestone year, to attend either of the two dates, choosing whichever venue suits them best.

What to expect

The Mass follows the same format as the Ballaghaderreen date: anniversary couples are invited forward to renew their vows and receive a blessing in front of family and the wider parish congregation, with Bishop Kevin Doran expected to preside. Light refreshments are served afterwards, giving couples time to talk with others marking a similar milestone. It is a small, parish-scale occasion built around the couples themselves rather than a public spectacle, though the church is open to the congregation as normal.

Getting there

Kiltoom is a small village between Roscommon town and Athlone, just off the N61, close to the shore of Lough Ree. There is no scheduled bus service directly to the village, so a car is the practical way to attend, with parking available at the church.

Kiltoom sits close to Lough Ree, and the drive out from Athlone or Roscommon town takes in some of the county’s quieter lakeshore countryside, worth extending into an afternoon out if the weather holds. There is more to see in Kiltoom and across Co. Roscommon.
