Secret Valley Wildlife Park

At Secret Valley Wildlife Park · Clonroche, Co. Wexford

Children enjoying wildlife park activities

Secret Valley Wildlife Park sits on 14 acres of mid-Wexford farmland and gives families a full day out with animals that are genuinely unusual for Ireland. The park specialises in rescued and rehomed exotic animals - meerkats, capybaras, primates, otters, macaws, tortoises and reptiles among them - so there is a real story behind each enclosure, not just a collection of animals on display. It suits families with children of any age, from toddlers who want to bottle-feed a baby goat to older kids who can book a Junior Keeper session and spend four hours working with the keepers.

What to expect

The admission price covers most of what is on offer. You can hand-feed llamas and alpacas, take part in animal talks, and let younger children loose on the large indoor bouncy castle and obstacle course, which is useful when the weather turns. Tractor rides run through the day, and there are outdoor play areas and an adventure trail for children who need to burn energy between animal stops.

The standout experiences are the named animals. Guava and Mango are the two resident capybaras, and a dedicated Capybara Experience (for ages 8 and over, around 40 minutes) lets a small group get up close with them. A Meerkat and Porcupine Experience runs on a similar format. For children aged 5 to 15 there are Little Helper and Junior Keeper programmes; adults who want more can book a Behind the Scenes VIP Guided Tour or a Senior Keeper Experience lasting most of the day. These specialist sessions are separate from general admission and need to be booked in advance through the park’s online booking system.

The Hungry Tortoise Cafe handles food and drinks on site. The quad train - a circuit around the grounds - costs an extra €2 on top of admission. Most of the park works in wet weather, and the indoor areas are covered.

Getting there

Clonroche sits on the N30 national road, about 11 km south-west of Enniscorthy and 17 km north-east of New Ross. From Dublin, take the M11 south then the N30 west through Enniscorthy; the drive is around 90 minutes. From Waterford, head north on the N25 and join the N30 near New Ross, about 45 minutes. From Kilkenny, the R700 and N30 bring you in from the west in a similar time. Parking at the park is on-site. There is no regular bus service directly to the park, so a car is needed.

While you’re in Clonroche

The village itself is small but well served, with a pharmacy, post office and a handful of local shops along the main street. The surrounding south Wexford countryside is good walking country, with the Blackstairs Mountains visible to the west. There is more to see in Clonroche and across Co. Wexford.
