Honey, Inc. Featuring Rory Conneally - Lunchtime at the Well

At Hawk's Well Theatre · Temple Street, Sligo, Co. Sligo

Honey, Inc. at Lunchtime at the Well

A free lunchtime jazz concert in the lobby of Hawk’s Well Theatre is one of those pleasures that requires almost no effort and delivers more than you expect. This particular slot in the Sligo Jazz Festival’s “Lunchtime at the Well” series features Honey, Inc., the ensemble led by Rory Conneally - a young pianist from Sligo who in late 2024 was named Young Irish Jazz Musician of the Year, judged by composer Bill Whelan and presented at the University Concert Hall in Limerick. The award came with a bursary for further musical development and an invitation to perform at the Limerick Jazz Festival. He is, by any measure, one of the most promising jazz musicians to emerge from Ireland in recent years, and the fact that he learned much of his craft in Sligo - through the Sligo Academy of Music and the Sligo Jazz Project’s own summer school - makes this a particularly satisfying local story.

What to expect

The Lunchtime at the Well concerts run at 1:10pm on weekday afternoons during the Sligo Jazz Project week (21-26 July 2026), using the lobby space at Hawk’s Well rather than the main auditorium. The format is informal - you can drop in from the street, stand or sit, and leave when you need to get back to your afternoon. Rory Conneally draws from a broad range of jazz and soul influences: Herbie Hancock, Oscar Peterson, Thelonious Monk, and Stevie Wonder all get name-checked as touchstones, and that range comes through in the playing - grounded in the bebop tradition but with room for groove and colour. Entry is free for all lunchtime concerts. The evening concerts at Hawk’s Well that same week are ticketed, but the midday slots are deliberately open and accessible.

Getting there

Hawk’s Well Theatre sits on Temple Street in the centre of Sligo town, a short walk from the bus and rail stations. Sligo is served by Bus Eireann routes from Dublin (approximately three hours), Galway, and Ballina, and by Irish Rail on the Dublin Heuston to Sligo line (roughly two and a half hours direct). If you are driving, the town centre has paid parking at several car parks off Wine Street and Hyde Bridge - both are close to Temple Street. The theatre is straightforward to find on foot from any direction in the town.

While you’re in Sligo

The jazz festival fills the town during this week, with free music spilling into pubs, hotels, and cafes from morning through to late evening - the lunchtime concert fits naturally into a longer afternoon of wandering. There is more to see in Sligo and across Co. Sligo.
