Double Bill: Jasper Høiby's 3Elements & Liselotte Østblom

At Hawk's Well Theatre · Temple Street, Sligo, Co. Sligo

Double Bill with Jasper Høiby's 3Elements and Liselotte Østblom

A free double bill at Hawk’s Well Theatre on a Wednesday evening in July is a good reason to be in Sligo. This concert brings together two acts from the international jazz world as part of the Sligo Jazz Festival - Jasper Høiby’s 3Elements and Swedish vocalist Liselotte Østblom - and the price of entry is nothing at all. If you have any interest in contemporary European jazz, this is worth clearing the diary for.

What to expect

Jasper Høiby is a Danish bassist who co-founded the acclaimed piano trio Phronesis and has since built a new ensemble in 3Elements. The trio - Høiby on bass, Xavi Torres on piano, and Naima Acuña on drums - draws on contemporary jazz with a distinctly European edge. Torres and Acuña are both Spanish musicians with serious credentials across the continent. The trio’s sound has been described as melodic and bold, built on intricate compositions that leave room for genuine improvisation. They are serving as Band in Residence for the 2026 Sligo Jazz Festival, which means they will have been teaching, rehearsing and performing all week by the time this concert arrives - expect a tight, energised set.

Sharing the bill is Liselotte Østblom, a Swedish-born vocalist based in London. She blends jazz with gospel, urban groove and her own compositional voice. Her debut EP drew comparisons to the next wave of Scandinavian jazz, and her work has received airplay from Gilles Peterson and Jamie Cullum on BBC Radio. She holds an MA in Jazz Voice from the Royal Academy of Music and studied under the celebrated Norma Winstone, which gives you a sense of the calibre of musician on this stage. Hawk’s Well is a 340-seat theatre with proper acoustics - a good room for a voice like hers.

Getting there

Sligo is well connected by road from all directions. From Dublin, the N4/M4 brings you north-west in under two and a half hours. From Galway, the N17 runs north through Tubbercurry. Bus Eireann runs regular services from Dublin Busaras to Sligo Bus Station on Lord Edward Street, and there is a direct rail service from Connolly Station in Dublin, taking around two hours and forty minutes.

Hawk’s Well Theatre sits on Temple Street, a short walk from the town centre and the bus and rail stations. Street parking is available around the town centre in the evenings, and there are pay car parks within easy walking distance.

While you’re in Sligo

Sligo has genuine cultural depth for a town its size - Yeats connections, good independent restaurants, and the coast and mountains close by. If you are coming from further afield, the evening concert leaves the day open for Lough Gill, Benbulben, or the long strand at Strandhill. There is more to see in Sligo and across Co. Sligo.
