Cairde Sligo Arts Festival - Evening Entertainment & Club Events

At Multiple Sligo venues · Sligo town and county, Co. Sligo

Cairde Sligo Arts Festival evening performers

Cairde Sligo Arts Festival is one of Ireland’s northwest region’s most distinctive weeks in the arts calendar - eight days in early July when Sligo’s streets, theatres, galleries, landscapes and unexpected spaces fill with music, theatre, dance, spoken word, circus and spectacle. The evening and late-night programme is where the festival shifts gear: as daytime performances wind down, the venues stay busy, and the town takes on a particular atmosphere you only get when a proper arts week is in full swing.

What to expect

The festival runs across multiple venues throughout Sligo town and county, mixing ticketed indoor shows with free outdoor events, site-specific work and community programming. Evening events span the full range of the festival’s disciplines - theatre performances, live music, dance shows and visual arts events carry on well into the night.

On the opening night (Saturday 4 July), the festival kicks off with a late club night at The Model, Sligo’s contemporary arts centre. The night is run by Select, a Sligo-based grassroots collective that has spent seven years building an independent party series and helping redefine the town’s nightlife and music scene. Their sound moves across UK garage, 2-step, house, techno and breaks, with restless bass-driven B2B sets at the core. Doors are at 11:30pm; admission is free with a suggested €10 donation (proceeds to Medical Aid for Palestinians). Not every night of the festival will be a dance night - but this opening event sets the tone for a week that takes the evening programme seriously.

Advance booking is strongly recommended for ticketed evening events. Many sell out and door availability is not guaranteed. Book online at cairdefestival.com or by phone through the Hawk’s Well Theatre box office (071 916 1518), open Thursday to Friday 10am to 5:30pm.

Getting there

Sligo is about 2 hours 45 minutes from Dublin by car on the N4. Irish Rail runs direct trains from Dublin Connolly to Sligo Mac Diarmada Station - the journey takes roughly 3 hours and puts you right in the town centre. Bus Eireann and Expressway routes connect from Dublin, Galway and other towns. Parking in Sligo town is available at several car parks close to the main festival venues; evening parking tends to be easier than during the day.

While you’re in Sligo

Arriving for a festival week is a good excuse to spend a day or two longer. Sligo has real depth - Yeats country, the Benbulben plateau, Strandhill beach and some excellent food and pub options. There is more to see in Sligo and across Co. Sligo.
