At Fitzgerald's Park · The Mardyke, Cork
The St Finbarr’s AC Cork City 10k is one of the longest-running road races in Ireland, and the 2026 edition marks its 75th anniversary - a serious milestone for a club race. It draws competitive club runners and recreational joggers alike, all following the same course along the banks of the River Lee on a Sunday morning in August. If you are chasing a flat, fast 10k with a proper atmosphere and a meaningful charity element, this one is hard to beat.
The race starts outside the main gate of Fitzgerald’s Park on the Mardyke, an 18-acre public park on the western edge of Cork city centre, close to University College Cork. From there the route follows the river path through the Lee Fields before finishing adjacent to The Kingsley Hotel - a largely flat course that suits runners going for a time. The finish-line area is set up as race HQ, with Kingsley Hotel as the title sponsor of that end of the event.
St Finbarr’s AC has partnered with Cork City Missing Persons Search and Recovery as the 2026 charity partner. You can donate during entry, at number collection, or on race day. The club is also running this edition as an eco-conscious event, with Refill.ie providing pre-filled reusable cups at the finish line in place of single-use plastic.
One practical note from the organisers: there are no water stations on the course, so bring your own water or carry a bottle. Number and t-shirt collection takes place at The Kingsley Hotel on the Friday evening and Saturday before the race. Every entrant receives a specially designed 75th anniversary souvenir T-shirt. The race is part of the Peugeot Race Series and sells out every year - entry well in advance is genuinely advised.
Fitzgerald’s Park is on the Mardyke, roughly a 15-minute walk west from Cork city centre along Western Road or Sunday’s Well Road. Cork Kent railway station is about 20 minutes on foot or a short taxi ride. Bus Eireann and Cork City bus services run along Western Road, with stops close to the park entrance. On race morning, parking near the Mardyke can be limited; arriving early or parking further into the city and walking is the safer plan.
Cork city rewards a few extra hours - the English Market, the UCC campus, and the riverside walkways are all close to the race route. There is more to see in Cork and across Co. Cork.
