Strabane Summer Market

At Strabane Town Centre · Strabane, Co. Londonderry

Strabane Summer Market

Strabane’s summer market is a free, open-air gathering that brings local food producers, craftspeople, and traders together in the town centre. It is the kind of event where you can pick up a jar of something homemade, watch a maker at work, and end up talking to the person who grew what you are buying. If you enjoy a slow browse with nothing to spend unless you want to, this is a low-pressure way to spend a Saturday morning in a town that takes its market tradition seriously.

What to expect

The market centres on local makers and producers - expect fresh and preserved foods, handmade crafts, artisan goods, and the kind of small-batch, locally sourced produce that does not turn up in supermarkets. Strabane has a genuine craft and food scene, shaped partly by the Strabane Origin Farmers Market that runs monthly at the Score Centre on Dock Road, and by the Peoples Market on Barrack Street that gives artists and crafters a regular pitch. The summer market draws on the same pool of traders in a more festive, seasonal setting. The town centre setting means you can move between stalls easily and nip into a cafe or shop between passes. Bring a bag, bring cash alongside card, and allow more time than you think you will need.

Getting there

Strabane sits on the River Mourne, roughly 22km south of Derry city, just across the border from Lifford in Co. Donegal. By road from Derry, take the A5 south - it is a straightforward 25-minute drive. From Belfast, the A5 / A4 route via Omagh takes around an hour and a half.

By bus, Translink’s Ulsterbus route 98 runs between Derry (Foyle Buscentre) and Strabane Bus Station roughly every hour on Saturdays, with a journey time of about 40 minutes. From Belfast Grand Central, direct services take around two and a half hours. Strabane has no rail station; Derry is the nearest railway town.

Parking in Strabane town centre is generally available on-street and in nearby car parks. Midweek is quieter, but a Saturday market morning can fill up early - arriving before 10am gives you the pick of spaces.

While you’re in Derry

Strabane is a short drive from the Sperrin Mountains and the border town of Lifford, and the road north to Derry passes through good walking country. The Strabane and Sperrins area is covered in the Visit Derry guide for a reason - there is more to the district than a single morning out. There is more to see in Derry and across Co. Derry.
