TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Ladies Football Semi-Finals

Two of the best intermediate county sides in Ireland will meet on Sunday 12 July as the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Ladies Football Championship reaches the semi-final stage. The Intermediate grade sits one tier below Senior, and a win here is worth far more than a place in the final - the two teams that make it to Croke Park on 2 August also earn promotion to Senior grade for 2027. That double prize makes the semi-finals some of the most hard-fought fixtures in the ladies’ game, with every county that has come this far knowing exactly what is at stake.

What to expect

The semi-final pairings are drawn from the quarter-final results on 28 June, with the bracket seeded so QF1 winner meets QF3 winner and QF2 winner meets QF4 winner. Quarter-final ties include Leitrim v Roscommon, so a home county side could yet feature on the day. Venues are confirmed following the quarter-final stage and will be announced on the LGFA website at ladiesgaelic.ie. Matches at this round typically attract strong local support, with a genuine festival-of-football atmosphere - county colours in the stands, club jerseys on the terraces, and the kind of noise that only a knockout game with promotion on the line can produce. Both semi-finals will be broadcast or streamed by TG4, so the occasion carries national attention. The two winners advance to the All-Ireland final at Croke Park on Sunday 2 August, where they will contest the Mary Quinn Memorial Cup.

Getting there

Roscommon town sits roughly in the centre of the country and is well placed for travel from most provinces. From Dublin, the N4/M4 west to Longford and then the N61 south into Roscommon is about 1 hour 45 minutes by car. From Galway, the N63 north-east gets you there in under an hour. Bus Eireann runs regular services between Athlone and Roscommon town, and Athlone is served by Irish Rail from Dublin Heuston and from Galway. If the match is at a rural ground rather than in Roscommon town itself, check ladiesgaelic.ie for the confirmed venue once announced, as local grounds in the county vary in their public transport access. Parking at GAA grounds in Roscommon is generally on-site or on grass verges nearby; arriving 30 to 40 minutes before throw-in avoids the worst of the crowd.

While you’re in Roscommon

Roscommon town is a quiet, likeable midlands county town with the ruins of a Norman castle just a short walk from the centre, and Lough Key Forest and Activity Park is a short drive north for anyone making a full day of it. There is more to see in Roscommon and across Co. Roscommon.
