The Seeger Sessions Revival

At Roscommon Arts Centre · Roscommon Town, Co. Roscommon

The Seeger Sessions Revival poster

If you have ever wondered what it would feel like to be in the middle of a New Orleans second-line parade while a fiddle rips through an old Pete Seeger song and a four-piece brass section raises the roof, this is the gig to see. The Seeger Sessions Revival is a 13-piece Irish ensemble that brings Bruce Springsteen’s celebrated Seeger Sessions album to life on stage - not as a note-for-note recreation but as a full-bodied, communal night of roots music that pulls gospel, Dixieland, country, bluegrass, folk and R&B into one joyful pile. It suits anyone who loves live music that moves, Springsteen fans who count We Shall Overcome among their favourites, and anyone who simply wants a generous night out in a proper arts venue.

What to expect

Thirteen musicians fill the stage at Roscommon Arts Centre: fiddle, banjo, accordion, steel guitar, whistle, a driving rhythm section and four brass players who together create a sound much bigger than the room. The band’s setlist draws from the Seeger Sessions record, meaning classics like Old Dan Tucker, Pay Me My Money Down, Jesse James, American Land and We Shall Overcome all get an airing. As one of the band’s founders has said, the whole point of what Springsteen did with Pete Seeger’s material was that it “was not about writing songs, it was about making music together” - and you feel that in the room. When the brass section locks in, it is the kind of thing that gets people on their feet without them quite deciding to stand. The band has sold out tours across Ireland and the UK and made history as the first act to play Celtic Connections at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow in 2025. Coming to Roscommon Arts Centre on Thursday 30 July at 8pm, this is a show that earns its reputation.

Getting there

Roscommon town sits roughly in the centre of Ireland, about 145km west of Dublin and 60km east of Galway city. By car from Dublin, take the M4/N61 and allow around 90 minutes; from Galway, the N63 takes under an hour. Bus Eireann runs regular services from Dublin (Busaras) and Athlone into Roscommon town. The Arts Centre is in the town centre, a short walk from the bus stop. Parking is available on the surrounding streets and in the adjacent car parks, and is generally easy in the evening.

While you’re in Roscommon

Roscommon town is a compact, easy place to spend a few hours before or after a gig - the ruins of Roscommon Castle are a short walk from the Arts Centre, and the county’s lakes and boglands reward a longer stay. There is more to see in Roscommon and across Co. Roscommon.
