Timoleague Harvest Festival 2026

At Timoleague village · Timoleague, Co. Cork

Timoleague Harvest Festival funfair and street events in West Cork

Every August, a small West Cork village quietly becomes the centre of gravity for the whole south coast. The Timoleague Harvest Festival is a ten-day community celebration that has been running for decades, drawing families, day-trippers and West Cork regulars back year after year. It is the kind of event that feels genuinely rooted in the place - not a touring act dropped into a field, but a festival that grew up here, shaped by the people who live around the Argideen estuary and the long tidal inlet that gives Timoleague its particular character. If you want to see what a real Irish village does with its summer, this is a reliable answer.

What to expect

The programme mixes old-fashioned fun with the sort of events you rarely find outside of rural Ireland. Pig and duck races are a genuine highlight - as daft and as good as they sound - alongside a dog show, cattle displays and produce competitions that keep the agricultural roots of a harvest festival intact. McFadden’s Funfair rolls in for the run of the event, bingo nights fill the hall, and there are discos, clay modelling sessions, seven-a-side soccer and children’s activities throughout. Live street music runs across the village on most evenings, with local and regional acts performing in the open air. A fancy dress competition and parade usually round off the schedule with some colour. Food options during the festival lean into the informal: think buttered scones, barbecues and what the local pubs and cafés put on. Prices vary by event - most outdoor activity is free to watch, with ticketed evenings and funfair rides adding up as the week goes on. The festival runs from 18 to 28 August 2026; check the festival’s Facebook page (@TimoleagueFestival) or Instagram (@timoleaguefestival) for the full 2026 programme as it is released.

Getting there

Timoleague sits roughly 50 km southwest of Cork city, on the R601 between Bandon and Clonakilty. By car from Cork, take the N71 towards Clonakilty and turn north onto the R601 at Ballinascarthy - the drive is about 55 minutes. From Clonakilty it is a short ten-minute run east along the same road. There is no regular rail service to the village; Bus Éireann routes serve Bandon and Clonakilty, from where a taxi or lift covers the last stretch. During festival week, roadside parking fills quickly in the village centre - arriving early in the day is sensible, and the approach roads have informal overflow spots that locals use.

While you’re in Timoleague

The Franciscan friary ruins at the water’s edge are one of the most atmospheric medieval sites in Cork - founded in the 13th century and free to walk through, with views across the estuary that repay the short stroll from the village centre. The flat Bay Walk to Courtmacsherry is three miles on easy ground and a good way to burn off festival energy. There is more to see in Timoleague and across Co. Cork.
