At Various · Cavan
Tyrone camogie supporters have good reason to make the trip south for this one. The Red Hands face Cavan in the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Premier Junior Camogie Championship - a round-robin group campaign that feeds directly into semi-finals and, for the two best sides, a decider at Croke Park on 9 August. Premier Junior is the third tier of the All-Ireland camogie championship, and the competition is tighter than the name might suggest: six counties battling through the group phase, with no room for an off day. By the time Tyrone and Cavan meet on 27 June, both sides will have already played three group games, so the stakes are clear.
This is inter-county camogie at its most competitive midweek stretch - a summer Saturday afternoon fixture where group standings can shift quickly. The six-county group (Roscommon, Tyrone, Armagh, Kildare, Wicklow and Cavan) plays a full round-robin, and Tyrone will have already faced Wicklow and Armagh before taking on Cavan here. Cavan are the home side and a strong presence in the Premier Junior grade, so this fixture matters for both camps. Camogie is a fast, skilful game - close to hurling in pace, played on a full-size GAA pitch - and county championship matches at this level draw a tight, knowledgeable crowd. Bring a jacket; June afternoons in Cavan can turn quickly. The match is free to attend, so there is no ticket barrier to showing up.
The fixture takes place in Cavan town. From Omagh, the drive south is roughly an hour, heading via Monaghan town on the A5/N2 corridor, or through Clones and down the N54 - both routes are well signed and manageable on a Saturday. Cavan’s county ground (Kingspan Breffni) sits just outside the town centre and has on-site parking. If you are travelling from further afield or prefer not to drive, Bus Eireann connects Dublin to Cavan regularly, though direct services from Tyrone to Cavan are limited - most Tyrone supporters will find the car the practical option.
If you are a Tyrone supporter following the team on the road, Omagh is the natural base before or after the trip to Cavan. The town sits at the heart of Tyrone and has a good range of cafes, pubs and food stops. There is more to see in Omagh and across Co. Tyrone.
