Western Dive Rally 2026

At Kilcummin Harbour · Kilcummin, Killala, Co. Mayo

Divers preparing to enter the water from a harbour pier

North Mayo’s coastline is one of the least-dived stretches of the Wild Atlantic Way, which is exactly the draw of the Western Dive Rally. Run by Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua Club together with the club’s Search & Recovery Unit, the rally brings visiting divers, snorkellers and freedivers from across Ireland to Kilcummin Harbour for a weekend of shore and wreck dives on the north Mayo coast, from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 August 2026.

What to Expect

Operations are based at Kilcummin Pier, running from Friday afternoon through to early Sunday afternoon. The rally is built around buddy-paired shore dives and wreck dives, with divers grouped by grade so pairings suit experience level; active diver certification, insurance and a lifejacket are mandatory for anyone going in the water. Registration runs through Diving Ireland’s Just Go booking platform, and short-term Diving Ireland membership is available on the day for anyone not already affiliated. Beyond the diving itself, the rally has a social side, with a shared lunch included in the entry fee and a clubhouse atmosphere that regulars say is as much a reason to come back as the dive sites themselves.

Getting There

Kilcummin is a small harbour a few kilometres north of Killala in north Mayo, reached via the R314. From Ballina the drive takes around 25 minutes; from Castlebar, closer to an hour. There is no public transport directly to the harbour, so a car is essential, and anyone bringing dive gear or a boat should allow extra time to unload at the pier.
