What to Expect

Story Time for Preschoolers at Wexford Town Library runs on Saturday mornings, aimed at children old enough to follow a full picture book rather than the shorter rhyme-based sessions used for babies and toddlers. A librarian reads aloud, often with a related discussion or simple activity, giving preschoolers practice at sitting, listening and joining in ahead of starting school. Running on a Saturday rather than a weekday makes it one of the more accessible sessions in the county programme for working parents, since it does not clash with creche or school drop-off. Wexford Town Library separately runs a midweek Rhyme Time for babies and toddlers aged 0 to 3 on Wednesday mornings, so between the two sessions the library covers children from birth through to school age. Older readers are catered for too, through the monthly Chatterbooks Junior Book Club for ages 8 to 12 and a Young Adult Book Club for teenagers. Over the summer, Wexford Town Library also takes part in the countywide Summer Stars Reading Adventure, a reading challenge run across all five branches, and membership is free and works at any public library in Ireland once a child is registered.
