Wexford Strawberry Weekend

At The Village at Wheelocks · Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford

Wexford Strawberry Weekend festival

Wexford grows some of the finest strawberries in Ireland, and for one weekend each summer the farm that has been growing them since the 1950s opens its gates to celebrate them properly. The Wexford Strawberry Weekend at The Village at Wheelocks pulls in local producers, chefs and families from across the south-east. Free to enter and genuinely rooted in place, it is much more than a market.

What to expect

The festival spreads across the 17-acre grounds of Wheelocks farm just outside Enniscorthy, with stalls, stages and picking fields all running at once. You can pick your own strawberries and raspberries straight from the rows - the farm has been growing them since the 1950s, and the berries are reliably sweet. Now in its third year, the weekend draws food enthusiasts, families and visitors from across the south-east.

Beyond the picking, there are live cooking demonstrations from chefs working with local produce, food pairings and tastings, and a craft market selling preserves, baked goods, cheeses and artisan goods from producers across the county. Children are catered for with games and entertainment throughout both days, and local musicians keep the atmosphere easy and social. Entry is free; you pay for what you eat, drink or pick.

Getting there

Enniscorthy sits on the N11/M11 corridor between Dublin and Wexford town - roughly 130 km from Dublin and 20 km from Wexford town. The Village at Wheelocks is on the rural outskirts and is best reached by car; the farm has on-site parking. Bus Eireann runs between Dublin, Enniscorthy and Wexford on this corridor, and the town has a train station on the Dublin-Rosslare line, though the farm is not walkable from the station so a taxi or lift is needed for the final stretch.

While you’re in Enniscorthy

The town itself is worth the visit - the castle, the National 1798 Rebellion Centre, and the steep streets above the River Slaney are all close by. There is more to see in Enniscorthy and across Co. Wexford.
