Wicklow Active Retirement Association Weekly Meeting

Wicklow Active Retirement Association meets every Tuesday morning at the De La Salle Pastoral Centre in Wicklow town, one of some 500 local groups across the country under the Active Retirement Ireland network. The association exists on the simple idea that older people organise activities for themselves rather than have them organised for them, and newcomers are told plainly that they will get a cead mile failte, a hundred thousand welcomes, if they turn up on any given Tuesday.

What to expect

The Tuesday meeting runs from 10.45am to noon and is the anchor event for the wider association, which also runs a broader range of social and recreational activities for its members beyond the weekly gathering itself. Active Retirement Ireland describes itself as a non political, non sectarian network, and the Wicklow group follows that model, with membership open to anyone who wants to take part regardless of background. The format is informal: tea, conversation and company are the constant, with other activities organised around the core Tuesday meeting depending on what members want to do that season. De La Salle Pastoral Centre is in Wicklow town, within easy walking distance of the town centre and served by local bus routes into Wicklow. There is parking near the centre for anyone driving in from outside the town.
