Greystones Book Festival - Kids Programme

At Greystones Rugby Club · Mill Road, Greystones, Co. Wicklow

Children taking part in a writing workshop at a book festival

What to Expect

Greystones Book Festival runs a kids strand at Greystones Rugby Club across the weekend of 8 and 9 August 2026. On Saturday, 8 August from 10am to 10:50am, children’s author Marian Brennan, who writes the Adventures of Finn O’Shea series, leads a 50-minute Writing Workshop for Kids covering story plotting, character development and using the five senses in writing, with no materials needed and no adult attendance required.

On Sunday, 9 August from 11am to 11:45am, the festival hosts Kids Apps and Creativity with Marc Diamond, Creative Producer of the LEGO Bluey and LEGO Duplo Marvel apps, who talks about working in children’s media and finding the fun in creative work. It leans more toward an industry talk than a hands-on kids activity, so it suits families with older children or parents with an interest in children’s media alongside the writing workshop.

Both sessions are ticketed separately through Eventbrite and run on a no-refund basis.

Marian Brennan, who organises both sessions, writes the Adventures of Finn O’Shea series for children and runs the writing workshop herself rather than bringing in a separate tutor, giving the Saturday session a direct link between the author leading it and the books on sale at the wider festival. The Sunday talk sits further from a typical festival author event, framed around the games and apps industry rather than books, which is worth knowing if a family is coming specifically for a traditional writing or reading session. Greystones Rugby Club hosts both as part of the club’s use as a community events space outside match days, with parking available on site.
