Wild Atlantic 10 Miler

Ballina Athletic Club’s Wild Atlantic 10 Miler, still known locally as the Ballina 10 Mile, is one of the county’s longer-standing road races and a regular fixture for anyone building toward an autumn marathon. It runs on Sunday 16 August 2026, starting on the Belleek Castle Road and finishing on the club’s own track, a route that stays close to the River Moy and Belleek Woods for most of its distance.

What to Expect

Runners set off at 11:00am, with a separate walkers’ group starting an hour earlier at 10:00am so both groups finish around a similar time. The course is chip-timed and rated by Ballina AC as a genuine test, ten miles being an unusual distance that suits runners checking their marathon pace without committing to a full long run. Water stations are placed along the route, and finishing at the athletic club’s own track means proper facilities: hot showers are available afterwards, a detail runners repeatedly mention as a nice touch after ten miles on the road. Every finisher gets a medal, and the first 200 to register receive a technical t-shirt, so early entry matters if that is important to you. Race packet collection is available the evening before or on race morning itself.

Getting There

Ballina sits on the N26 and N59, roughly 45 minutes from Castlebar and just over an hour from Sligo. The start on Belleek Castle Road is a short drive or walk from Ballina town centre, and Belleek Woods itself is a well-known local amenity. Ballina has a train station on the Western Rail Corridor and is served by Bus Eireann from Sligo, Castlebar and Galway.
