Dear Evan Hansen runs for four nights at the Market Place Theatre, Armagh, from Wednesday 30 September to Saturday 3 October 2026. The multi-award-winning Broadway musical, with music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and a book by Steven Levenson, gets a rare local staging, giving Armagh audiences the chance to see one of the most talked-about modern American musicals without a trip to the West End.
The story follows Evan Hansen, a socially anxious high school student whose life changes after a classmate’s suicide and a misunderstanding around a letter he wrote to himself as part of his therapy. As Evan is drawn into the grieving family’s life and lets a small lie spiral into something much bigger, the show explores isolation, mental health, grief and the pressure of social media honesty, set against a contemporary pop-rock score that produced the hit song “Waving Through a Window.” It is emotionally heavy material handled with genuine warmth, and it has become one of the most produced musicals with amateur and school companies since its Broadway run.
Given the subject matter, this is best suited to older teenagers and adults rather than young children. A four-night run over a full week suggests a fuller-scale production, with the Market Place’s main 400-seat auditorium put to proper use.
The Market Place Theatre is on Market Street in Armagh city centre. From Belfast, the M1 and A3 via Portadown take around an hour; from Dublin, take the A1/N1 through Newry. Translink Goldline and Ulsterbus services run into Armagh bus station on Lonsdale Road, a short walk away, and there is public parking nearby including the Market Street car park.
