How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying comes to the Market Place Theatre, Armagh, for one night on Saturday 5 September 2026. The show is a satirical Broadway musical comedy with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, one of the classic mid-century American musicals still regularly staged by amateur companies for its sharp comedy and big ensemble numbers.
The story follows J. Pierrepont Finch, a window cleaner who uses a self-help manual, ambition and no small amount of cheek to climb the corporate ladder at the World Wide Wicket Company, outmanoeuvring rivals and superiors on his way to the executive suite. It is played broadly for laughs, satirising 1960s corporate culture and office politics, with a score built for big group numbers and comic set pieces rather than quiet moments. For anyone who enjoys classic musical comedy done with energy, it is a reliable night out.
As with much of the Market Place’s autumn programme, this looks to be a touring or amateur company production rather than a West End transfer, giving local audiences access to a full-scale musical without a trip to Belfast or further afield. Expect a full band or backing track, a sizeable cast, and the theatre’s main 400-seat auditorium put to good use.
The Market Place Theatre is on Market Street in Armagh city centre. From Belfast, the M1 and A3 via Portadown take around an hour; from Dublin, take the A1/N1 through Newry. Translink Goldline and Ulsterbus services run into Armagh bus station on Lonsdale Road, a short walk away, and there is public parking nearby including the Market Street car park.
