Belvoir Players bring their high-energy Belfast comedy No Hope Here to the Market Place Theatre, Armagh, for one night on Saturday 22 August 2026. It is a broad, fast-paced farce set firmly in Belfast’s Troubles-era comedy tradition, the kind of show built for laughs rather than subtlety, and it gives audiences outside Belfast a chance to catch one of the city’s established amateur companies on the road.
The plot follows Rab Devlin, who has quietly profited for years from flipping houses under the Housing Executive’s nose, until his wife places a newspaper ad that blows his cover spectacularly. To dodge the trouble that follows, Rab invents a story of paramilitary intimidation, only to find himself “protected” by loyalists, republicans and the RUC all at once. As each group arrives in disguise, Rab scrambles to keep their identities hidden from one another, and the misunderstandings multiply from there. It is a sharp, hilarious farce built on mistaken identity and comic timing rather than heavy themes, and Belvoir Players lean into the chaos.
Belvoir Players are a long-established Belfast amateur drama company with a reputation for broad comedy, and this touring date lets Armagh audiences see the production without a trip to Belfast. Expect a full house atmosphere typical of amateur drama nights, with a local crowd who know the genre well.
