The Market Place Theatre screens National Theatre Live’s production of The Misanthrope on Tuesday 22 September 2026 at 7pm. It is a reimagining of Moliere’s classic dark comedy, filmed live on stage at the National Theatre in London, directed by Indhu Rubasingham with a new adaptation by Martin Crimp, and it stars Killing Eve’s Sandra Oh in the title role.
Moliere’s original follows a man who prides himself on brutal honesty in a society built on flattery and social games, and this adaptation carries that satirical bite into a contemporary setting. Sandra Oh takes the central role in a production praised for its sharp writing and pace, and NT Live’s big-screen broadcast brings the full staging, performances and production values of a major London production to Armagh without the trip. Tickets are £17.50 for adults, £12.00 for under-16s and students, and £14.75 for concessions.
NT Live screenings run at the Market Place Theatre periodically throughout the year alongside its dementia-friendly film series, giving Armagh audiences regular access to major London and RSC productions on the cinema screen. It is a one-off single showing rather than a run, so there is no second chance to catch it locally if you miss this date.
The Market Place Theatre is on Market Street in Armagh city centre. From Belfast, the M1 and A3 via Portadown take around an hour; from Dublin, take the A1/N1 through Newry. Translink Goldline and Ulsterbus services run into Armagh bus station on Lonsdale Road, a short walk away, and there is public parking nearby including the Market Street car park.
