Ballyhaunis Library Book Club

What to Expect

Ballyhaunis Library’s book club brings local readers together once a month to talk through the group’s current title, sharing opinions and recommendations in a relaxed, low-pressure setting. It is part of the same branch network as the Ballina, Castlebar, Belmullet and Kiltimagh clubs, each running to its own monthly slot with its own regular members. September’s meeting is the first since the summer break, so it doubles as a chance to catch up as well as compare notes on holiday reading.

The group’s September selection spans three very different titles, a literary novel, a papal-conclave thriller and a family drama, giving members plenty to discuss even if they only managed to finish one of the three. That mix is fairly typical of how the club approaches its reading list, favouring variety over sticking to a single genre, which keeps the conversation open to readers with quite different tastes.

Good to Know

The club normally meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 8:00pm in Ballyhaunis Library, breaking for July and August. The next confirmed meeting is Wednesday 2 September 2026, where members are due to discuss Tell Me Everything by Elizabeth Strout, Conclave by Robert Harris, and Three Days in June by Anne Tyler. There is no charge and no need to sign up in advance, and copies of the featured titles are usually available to borrow from the library beforehand. New members are welcome to drop in even if they have not read every previous book, and library staff can confirm the current selection and any date changes by phone.

Getting There

Ballyhaunis Library is in the town centre, a short walk from the main street and local car parks, making it an easy stop for anyone already in town for the evening. Ballyhaunis is well served by road and rail links across east Mayo, so the club also draws readers from nearby villages who travel in for the evening.
