What to Expect

The Breifne Historical Society (Cumann Seanchais Bhreifne) holds its annual general meeting each year, typically including the launch of the latest edition of the Breifne Journal - the society’s annual publication covering the history and archaeology of Counties Cavan and Leitrim. The 2026 AGM includes a talk by Sean Galligan of the Orphanage Memorial Committee on the 1943 Cavan Orphanage Fire Tragedy, which claimed the lives of 35 children, and marks the society’s 70th anniversary year.

Tea and coffee are served afterwards, and all members and members of the public with an interest in local history are welcome.
