The Carlow and District Football League’s new season kicks off from Friday 28 August 2026, when 26 member clubs from across the county begin a full campaign of weekly league and cup fixtures that runs through into the following spring. It is the backbone of grassroots soccer in Carlow, taking in senior, reserve and over-35 divisions plus cup competitions such as the KCLR Shield, with games played at club grounds in towns and villages right across the county every weekend.
Confirmed early fixtures include Ardattin Athletic FC hosting Ballymurphy Celtic in the KCLR Shield on 28 August, and Parkville United against Burrin Celtic in the Over-35 Division 3 the following evening, 29 August at 7:00pm, a fair sample of the mix of first-team cup football and veterans’ league games that make up a typical August weekend once the season is under way. The league’s 26 clubs include Bagenalstown AFC, Baltinglass Town, Carnew FC, Castle Rangers, Crettyard United, Dolmen Celtic, Hanover Harps, Killeshin FC, Kilree Celtic, Newpark AFC, Nurney Villa, St Fiacc’s FC, St Patrick’s, Vale Wanderers and Wolfhill Athletic among others, drawing players from Carlow town and every corner of the county. Fixtures, results and league tables are updated weekly on the league’s own website through the season, which is the best source for the following weekend’s full card.
There is no single venue: matches are played at club grounds spread right across County Carlow, so anyone planning to attend a specific fixture should check the home club’s own ground before travelling.
