What to Expect

A friendly monthly gathering for book lovers upstairs in Castlebar Library, where members discuss the selected title of the month and share their thoughts and opinions in an informal, welcoming setting. It is one of five Mayo County Library book clubs, alongside Ballina, Ballyhaunis, Belmullet and Kiltimagh, and is well suited to anyone who enjoys reading and wants to talk about it with other locals, whatever their usual genre.

As the county town’s branch, Castlebar’s club tends to draw a steady mix of long-standing members and newer readers dropping in for the first time, and the group is generally happy to talk through the current book even with someone who has only read part of it. It is a straightforward, no-pressure way to build reading into a monthly routine and meet other people in the town who enjoy the same thing.

Good to Know

The club meets monthly, on the second Tuesday, at 7:00pm in Castlebar Library. The next confirmed meeting is Tuesday 11 August 2026. There is no charge to attend and no need to book a place in advance, so readers can simply come along on the night. The full reading history and current book selection are available from library staff, who can also confirm any changes to the schedule. New members are always welcome, including anyone who has not managed to finish the current title.

Getting There

Castlebar Library is in the town centre, close to the main shopping streets and within walking distance of several public car parks, making it an easy evening trip for anyone already in Castlebar. As the county’s largest town, Castlebar is also reachable by bus and rail from across Mayo, so the club is a realistic option even for readers coming in from outside the town.
