Cavan's Turf Cutting Past - Heritage Week Talk

At Johnston Central Library · Farnham Street, Cavan, Co. Cavan

Johnston Central Library, Cavan town

What to Expect

Over tea and biscuits, Local Studies Librarian Jonathan Smyth leads a conversation about the long tradition of turf cutting in County Cavan, covering old methods, the experience of bringing home the turf, and the memories that the bogs hold for local families. This is a participatory event where attendees are invited to share their own stories and recollections as well as listen.

The event is part of National Heritage Week 2026 (15-23 August). Spaces are limited - it is designed as an intimate gathering rather than a formal lecture.
