At Conneff Park · Celbridge, Co. Kildare
Celbridge GAA have been one of Kildare’s more compelling club football stories in recent years, and the 2026 Joe Mallon Motors Kildare Senior Football Championship gives them another chance to push deep into the county series. The group stage runs from late August through to mid-September, giving supporters several chances to follow the campaign. This is genuine county-level club football at close range - the kind of match where the atmosphere is tight, the stakes are real, and you can watch from a few metres behind the endline.
Celbridge are drawn in Group A alongside Clane, Johnstownbridge, and Allenwood - a round-robin group stage that means every game counts from the first whistle. The opening fixture on 22 August is Allenwood versus Celbridge at Conneff Park in Clane at 5pm. Round 2 on 6 September brings Celbridge home to Manguard Park to face Johnstownbridge (also 5pm), and the final group game on 18 September is against Clane at Cedral St Conleth’s at 8pm.
The club was founded in 1885 and won the Kildare Senior Football Championship for the first time in 2008 - the same year they were named Kildare GAA Club of the Year. They reached the county final again in 2024, showing the depth of talent the club has developed over the past two decades. As a dual club with a strong hurling tradition (eight senior hurling championships), the football set-up draws on a well-run organisation behind it.
Club championship football in Kildare tends to be competitive and physical. Bring some layering - evening kick-offs in September can turn cool quickly once the sun drops.
Conneff Park is in Clane, about 5km from Celbridge - both are easily reached from the M4 motorway. Celbridge itself sits roughly 20km southwest of Dublin city centre. For matches at Manguard Park in Newbridge and St Conleth’s Park in Naas, those towns are well served by Dublin-Kildare rail (Kildare line) and Bus Eireann. Parking at club grounds is usually available on the road or in adjacent car parks - arrive 20 minutes early for a good spot.
Celbridge is home to Castletown House, the largest Palladian house in Ireland, set in riverside parkland that is free to walk. The town sits on the Liffey with good cafes and a quiet main street worth a stroll before an evening fixture. There is more to see in Celbridge and across Co. Kildare.
