Celbridge GAA Senior Hurling Championship

One of Kildare’s oldest GAA clubs takes to the field again this summer as Celbridge compete in the 2026 UPMC Kildare Senior Hurling Championship. Founded in 1885 - just eight months after the GAA itself was established in Thurles - Celbridge are among the county’s most storied hurling clubs, with eight senior titles to their name. This campaign runs from August through to the end of September, giving supporters plenty of chances to follow the blue and white through group-stage action and, if form holds, into the knockout rounds. It suits GAA enthusiasts of any age, and anyone with an interest in seeing competitive club hurling at a high county level.

What to expect

Celbridge are placed in Group B of the 2026 UPMC Senior Hurling Championship alongside Naas, Ardclough, and Clane. The group format guarantees each side at least three group games, with teams collecting two points for a win and one for a draw. Second place in Group B progresses directly to the semi-finals; third place meets the third-placed team from Group A in a quarter-final, so nothing is settled early. If Celbridge advance, the championship concludes with a final at St Conleth’s Park. Fixtures are confirmed by Kildare GAA on a rolling basis and spread across county grounds throughout the summer - check kildaregaa.ie or the Celbridge GAA club site for specific match dates, times, and venues as they are released.

Getting there

Celbridge sits on the south bank of the Liffey, roughly 20 kilometres west of Dublin city centre along the R403. By car from Dublin, the M4/N4 brings you close, with the R148 and R403 as the final approach. Dublin Bus route 67 serves Celbridge from the city, and there is also a Bus Eireann connection via Maynooth. For matches at Celbridge GAA’s own ground on Hazelhatch Road, there is on-site and roadside parking. Away fixtures at grounds elsewhere in Kildare will vary - travelling by car is the most practical option for most venues in the county.

While you’re in Celbridge

Celbridge is well worth a couple of hours before or after a match. Castletown House - Ireland’s largest Palladian mansion - sits just outside the town and is open to visitors, and the Liffey riverside is an easy walk. There is more to see in Celbridge and across Co. Kildare.
