DIY Workshop Summer Kids Camp

At The Irish School of DIY · Tipperary, Co. Tipperary

Children working on DIY projects

Three days of real tools, actual projects and skills a child can actually use - that is the pitch of the Irish School of DIY’s summer kids camp. Founded by Declan Buggy and running camps across Ireland, the organisation gives children aged 9 to 14 a structured workshop experience that goes well beyond craft tables. This Tipperary session runs 14 to 16 July 2026 and suits kids who fidget with things, like to build and want to feel the satisfaction of making something with their hands. No prior experience is needed, and all tools and safety equipment are provided.

What to expect

Each day runs as a proper workshop session, with small groups so every child gets hands-on time and direct guidance from instructors. The three days cover tool safety and workshop basics first - measuring, marking, handling hand tools correctly - then move into actual making. Children work through woodwork assembly, sanding and finishing, and creative project building, coming away with a finished piece they have made themselves.

The camp is not a passive class. Kids are on their feet, making real decisions about their projects and working through problems as they come up. The emphasis throughout is on safe practice alongside genuine skill: by the end, children have a clearer sense of what goes into fixing, building and maintaining things around the home. Materials are included in the price. According to the event listing, lunch is also included.

The Irish School of DIY keeps group sizes small, which means children who are less confident get plenty of encouragement and those who race ahead have room to go further with their project.

Getting there

Tipperary town sits on the N24 between Limerick and Clonmel, roughly 30 minutes south-east of Limerick city. From Dublin, the M7 to the M8 and then the R497 gets you there in around two hours. Irish Rail serves Tipperary on the Limerick to Waterford line, with regular services from both cities - the station is a short walk from the town centre. Bus Eireann routes also connect Tipperary to Limerick, Cork and Cashel. Parking in town is generally straightforward, with spaces along the main street and in the town square.

While you’re in Tipperary

Tipperary town is a quiet, workable base for a family trip - easy to navigate and close to the Glen of Aherlow, one of the more peaceful walking valleys in Munster. There is more to see in Tipperary and across Co. Tipperary.
