Taking your dog to the cinema sounds like a novelty, but the Market Place Theatre in Armagh has quietly made it a proper outing. This morning screening of The Secret Life of Pets 2 is one of a series the theatre runs for owners who want to bring their dogs along rather than leave them at home. The film itself - a U-rated animated sequel running about 86 minutes - is well-suited to a relaxed Saturday morning with a four-legged companion. It suits families with young children as much as it suits adults who just happen to own a dog.
The screening takes place in the Studio Theatre, a more intimate room than the main house, with cabaret-style seating that gives dogs a little more room to settle at your feet. The theatre lowers the sound level specifically for these events, which helps keep dogs calm throughout. Water bowls and blankets are provided on the day. Spaces are capped at one dog per adult, so booking in advance is sensible - these screenings tend to fill up once dog owners get word of them.
